Visits to the Shroud for those with serious diseases

Everyone should be given the opportunity to see and spend a few minutes in prayer before the Shroud.  This is especially true for people with serious diseases. For this reason, Shroud Medical Services, directed by Dr. Sergio Sgambetterra, has developed a procedure which allows any patient, even those immobilized or restricted to a stretcher, for example people with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) to make a visit to the Shroud.

Starting May 6, this service will be available every Wednesday afternoon between 16:30 and 17:30.  Patients can even be transported to the Duomo by ambulance.  After reaching the Cathedral persons with such needs are assisted by volunteers and health workers and join the viewing route at the previewing area where images with details of the Shroud are shown.   From there they are accompanied into the Cathedral and then to the viewing area in front of the Shroud.

To book a visit, family members of those with such illnesses or assistance groups must call the Shroud call center at 011.5295518.  The call center is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 19:00 and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 14:00.
