The Shroud   versione testuale

In the spring of 2010, just ten years after the Exposition in the jubilee year, the Holy Shroud will once again be on display in the Cathedral of Torino starting on 10 April to 23 May and also Pope Benedict XVI will be there to revere it. The Pope will be in Turin Sunday 2 May 2010.
In 2010, and for the first time ever, it will be possible to see the Holy Shroud following the intervention it underwent in 2002. This restoration, carried out under the supervision of professor Flury Lemberg, has allowed many important operations like:
- The removal of the pieces of cloth burnt in the Chambéry fire in 1532;
- The removal of the “patches” applied by the Clarisses;
- The removal of the lining of Holland to which it was fastened in 1534 and the placing on a new support.
New and more detailed information will be provided along the introductory route to the Shroud which, among other things, will also include, in the prereading area, super high resolution photographic documents.
The booking system for visits to the Shroud, which you can access using this Internet site or by contacting a telephone call centre, will be fully operational starting from december. During the Exposition, an “immediate” booking service will also be made available (for same day visits) at a reception point that will be set up in piazza Castello, near the Cathedral. Maximum attention will be devoted to meeting the needs of the sick, disabled, members of religious orders and diocesan pilgrims.
Ecclesiastic and cultural activities will accompany the display of the Shroud, appointments that will be defined by the organising committee over the coming months.
