Turin, 24th April 2010- The high- definition image of the Shroud was presented yesterday during a press conference. It was the first time that a picture of the relic was taken in a digital format.

The picture was made by the local agency Giandurante thanks to Fondiaria Sai’s contribution with a digital camera H3DII MS. This has permitted to reproduce the Holy Shroud in 39 million pixels and to preserve the original weaving and colour.

According to the Vice-President of the International Centre of Sindonology, Nello Balossino “the new pictures will be very useful to study the relic in a more precise way”. Yesterday, Roberto Cota, the new President of Piemonte Region saw the Shroud. Around 400 pilgrims from Bologna diocese with bishop Carlo Caffarra and 90 believers from Saint Etienne with bishop Dominique Lebrun had the same experience.
