Q: How long will the new Exposition last?
A: The faithful will be able to see the Holy Shroud starting from 10 April to 23 May.
Q: Will it be possible to see the Holy Shroud without making a booking?
A: No. As with previous Expositions in 1998 and 2000 you will have to book your visit. If you do not book you will still be able to access the central nave of the Cathedral, but you will not be able to get closer to the Holy Shroud.
Q: When and how can I book my visit?
A: You can book your visit using the official Exposition site on the Internet (www.sindone.org) or by
telephoning the bookings call centre. During the Exposition period there will also be an “immediate” booking service (for same day visits) at the reception point that will be set up in piazza Castello, near the Cathedral.
Q: How can I book on line?
A: Simply fill in the form which, starting from December, will be available in the bookings section on the official Exposition site (www.sindone.org).
Q: As with previous Expositions, will bookings be reserved for specific categories of visitors?
A: Yes. The disabled people, sick, members of religious orders and other categories will have spaces and services allocated to them in the bookings system.
Q: Are there any novelties with respect to the last two Expositions?
A: Yes. The Holy Shroud was “restored” in 2002 and the Exposition in 2010 will be the first chance the public has to see the “renewed” Holy Linen on display. Other new features include the route that pilgrims will have to follow to reach the Cathedral and the organisation of those areas that lead to the entrance of the Cathedral.
Q: What restoration operations have been carried out on the Shroud?
A: The Linen of Holland, which was fastened to the Shroud in 1534, has been detached from it; the “patches” sewn on by the Poor Clares after the Chambéry fire have been removed. The Holy Shroud is now sustained by a new support system.
Q: Will volunteers also be employed during the Exposition next spring?
A: Yes. They have an essential role to play. Recruitment and training activities have already been launched. In 2000 more than 3000 volunteers were employed and were assigned to carry out the reception service along the route and in the Cathedral, accompanying the elderly and disabled, welcoming pilgrims in Torino’s historic centre churches and explaining the significance of the Holy Shroud to students in Torino’s schools. Q: Where can I find more information about the Holy Shroud?
A: In the Museum of the Holy Shroud, which can be reached on foot from the Cathedral in a matter of minutes. The Museum hosts a display of unique and precious artefacts and objects (e.g. the camera that was used to take the first photograph of the Holy Shroud and the precious silver and gem studded reliquary). Here you can retrace the history of the Holy Shroud, of the scientific research work that has been carried out on it and of the displays of devotion concerning it.
Q: Is it possible to visit the Museum of the Holy Shroud before the public Exposition?
A: Yes. The Museum of the Holy Shroud is open daily from 9.00 to 12.00 and from 15.00 to 19.00. It is possible to book your visit by calling +39.011.436.58.32 (fax +39.011.431.92.75) or by writing to museo@sindone.org
