Letter of
His Eminence Cardinal Fossati to the Clergy and to the People

Revered Brothers and loved children,
And now I am waiting for you, revered priests and beloved
children, here in Turin in the next days of the Exposition of The Holy Shroud. Yesterday
the dedication of the Diorama of the Passion, which tries to dispose our soul to venerate
the Holy Linen in the contemplation of Jesus sufferings, opened the period of
preparation. When you receive this letter the Shroud will be already displayed to our
veneration. The solemn opening service that will take place on Sunday 24 will be attended
by the August Princes, the Representative of the Royal Government and many Bishops and
Archbishops. I rely on the fact that you will come numerous during the days of the
Exposition. Revered Parish Priests: speak to the faithful about this singular and
extraordinary grace that we are granted. Every Parish should bring a large group of
pilgrims. A visit to this remarkable Relic will be a real Mission, provided that you keep
in your heart the pious spirit of meditation and prayer that is needed when we want to go
near the Linen in a dignified manner. That Linen can speak very effectively to a Christian
heart about the ways in which Jesus suffered for our redemption. I hope I will see you
soon in front of the altar of the Shroud, I bless everyone of you with all my heart.
Torino, 15 September 1933.
His Lordship Cardinal Fossati, Archbishop.
