Joseph of Arimathea

Joseph is mentioned by tthe four evangelists; he was authoritative in Israel, a member of the assembly of the elders; he was a disciple of Christ, secretly though because of his position; Luke informs us that he had to no avail opposed the decision to condemn Jesus to death. He succeeds to obtain the body of Jesus from Pilate, he carries it to the tomb, he buys the linen to wrap the body and he provides a beautiful and appropriate rock-hewn tomb.

It might be interesting to note what the gospels say about him: Matteo 27,57-61; Marco 15,42-47; Luca 23,50-56; e Giovanni 19,38-42.
