The Gospel does not speak explicitly about nails. It just says that Jesus was crucified. We know from other sources that this form of torture included the use of ropes and nails to keep the bodies on the cross. Often, in art works representing depositions, we can find objects such as nails and other “instruments” of the Passion (ropes, pincers, scourges, the crown of thorns, but also the scourging pillar, the shroud, the written board that Pilate placed on the Cross).
