Signed work
The signature can be seen diagonally on the
Virgin's breast. It became usual for artists to sign their works
as from the XV century. This meant greater consideration and
prestige for the artist in society; he's not just an ordinary
manufacturer at the service of the city, of God or of the
customer, but a well known person whose work is valued as much as
the reason for which it was ordered.
