Lacking of objective evidence, even skilful art critics may find it hard to attribute an art work to a certain painter. This is due to the interactions generally developed among the painters, who often grew up in art shops that belonged to famous artists. This work, for example, was attributed in turn to Giovanni Bellini (young Giorgione worked in his shop), to one of his followers, to Palma il Giovane, to Tiziano (who also worked in Bellini’s shop for some years).
