stay in Venice
Dürer went to Venice twice: his first stay took place between 1494 and 1495, the second one between 1505 and 1507. The artists mobility (they used to go and see or study the artistic innovations of other schools) began relatively late. In the Renaissance it happens frequently. Many Nordic painters (from the Netherlands and Germany) chose to go to Venice, centre of one of the most important paint schools of the time but also city which had consolidated business relations with many Northern countries. Especially after the completion of the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo and the Stanze by Raffaello, Roma became the second destination of painters coming from other culture.
