Jerusalem
It was the capital city of ancient Israel (the name Roman dominators gave it was Aelia Capitolina). It was the place where God inhabited, first in the ark and then in the Temple. It was the coveted destination of all prophets (Isaia’s prophecies about the city are memorable), it was the place where the Lord revealed Himself, and, finally, the city where Jesus’ mission came to its ultimate aim. There He was welcomed as “David’s son” by the population and, just a few days later, he found his death right out of the city limits, in the area called Golgota (= “the area of the head, Calvaria in Latin).
