Master of Delft
As often happens in paintings, when critics look at works made by artists whose biographical data are not known, they just call them “masters”, and then they qualify them with the name of their town of origin or the name of the town they lived and worked in. Sometimes they even name them after one of their most important paintings. The hard thing is to create a corpus of their works, since usually critics can only trust their own intuitions and their own ability of recognizing changes of style in a painter’ works.
