Miniature
A special kind of painting used
to illustrate the ancient codes on parchment or paper. It
originated in Eastern countries and it takes its name from
"minio", red lead, used since 10th century for the
initial capital letters of the manuscripts. During 13th and 14th
centuries the capital letters of the manuscripts began to be
decorated with scenes. In the Sacer Codes they were usually taken
form the Bible. This procedure was widely developed by famous
painters, until the invention of movable type, which signaled the
end of these elaborately decorated texts.
